I called this post 'Animation Glossary 2' because I already have a post with animation glossary on this blog. I have created it in the first term. You can click here to access the post.
In this post I will expand a little bit on the vocabulary connected to my progression route which is animation.
Frame - Frame is an individual picture that is a part of a strip of film.
Squash and Stretch - This is a technique I mention often on my blog. It is a drawing technique which is based on the idea of exaggerating movements.
Extremes - Drawings that display the beginning and end of a pose [between extremes there are inbetweens, but I have explained inbetweens in my first glossary post].
Doping - assigning a drawing to a range of frames.
Line of action - A centerline in an action pose.
For example in this drawing, the line of action is in red.
Clean up - Getting rid of all the unnecessary lines created when drawing. Clean up is being done after everything has been approved.
Cut - The transition between scenes with no visual effect.
Dialogue - The lines that the characters are speaking in the animation.
Follow-through - A secondary movement which is caused by the main action in the scene.
Jump cut - A transition between scenes which is not visually pleasing. It usually happens when the scene ends with a frame similar to a frame that the next scene is starting with. It is something good to avoid.
In this blog post I have explained a few words and phrases that are very important in the animation world. Of course there is so much more to learn and it is critical to keep improving the vocabulary so it is easier to exist in the animation world. To educate myself on this vocabulary I have used two articles. Click here to access one of them and click here to access the second one.
I think 'hold' and 'persistence of vision' are two terms that students in your subject area should know as you develop your knowledge of animation. Keep adding to this as we get closer to the deadline.
