Choosing a name for my project

Coming up with a name for my project was a process with many steps. Of course I would not just call it 'purple family' or 'purple kingdom' because that just does not go well with my idea of not giving any information directly. I like to be a little bit secretive with all my ideas and messages I want to convey. 

I started thinking process by listing names of different shades of purple hoping that it would give me some wonderful ideas:

• lavender
• heather
• lilac
• mauve
• eggplant
• amethyst
• periwinkle
• sangria
• violet
• amaranthine

These are the shades I have listed and I have actually thought about some ideas. Looking at the word lavender, I thought about lavender fields and that overwhelming smell, which is an idea where to start. Looking at the word lilac, I have thought about lilac sky and beautiful sunsets, which is also a place to start developing an idea, but mostly I have been drawn into the word amethyst because it is not only a shade of purple but it is a gemstone. 

I decided to research amethysts more to know better where to go with this idea. 

As of today, amethysts are classified as semi-precious stones but in the past (ancient times), they were called a 'Gem of Fire' - a precious stone, worth as much as a diamond (Crystal Vaults, 2021). 

Amethyst

Amethyst used to be worth as much as a diamond and that shows that it was really considered precious and people wanted it. It is indeed a very pretty crystal and has a beautiful purple color. Amethyst is believed to have metaphysical powers and this belief goes back to Ancient Greece where it was believed that amethyst prevents getting drunk (Monica Vinader, 2021). The word amethyst comes from Greek amethustos that translates to not drunken. Amethyst is believed to have healing properties. South Koreans for example have been believing for a long time that amethyst is stress relieving, also alleviates headaches and make improvement in the blood circulation (Monica Vinader, 2021). According to those beliefs, an amethyst can improve people's physical health and it also is recognize as a help in meditation and having a positive value in one's mental health. I personally think that it is a very interesting stone that looks absolutely beautiful. 

Now knowing more about this stone I started to think about how this knowledge could impact my project title or project work in general. I was thinking of the beauty of this stone and how it looks fairly royal to me. It looks expensive and luxurious. 

I started thinking that if the crystals really worked as people believe they do, it would be amazing to be surrounded with them. For example if a whole house was made out of crystals or roads or any sort of buildings, but then it came to me that crystals are not like glass or bricks - made out of other things. They are naturally as they are, they are in the ground. So how beautiful would the land be if instead of walking on the ground we would be walking on crystals. That gave me the idea having an entire planet made out of one amethyst. I think it would be very pretty and the fact that it is see-through would add those light reflections and it would really be insane. To think that during daytime it is just light and pretty and during nighttime the ground is light because the sun is shining on the other side of the planet if that makes sense. 

I can understand it and I am not sure if that would be clear to my target audience, but as I mentioned earlier - children have great imagination and in my opinion those child mins are capable of a lot more than adults give them credit for. 

This is how I came up with the name for my project and cartoon - Amethyst Planet.
