Changing the about page

Today I decided to look at the about page I wrote last term. I knew I wanted to change the text completely, starting with the fact that I am no longer 19 but 20. I needed to do a few changes therefore I started by asking myself a few questions.

I asked myself who am I as an artist and what do I want people who visit my website to see about me.

I am an aspiring animator, but there is more to that. I am mostly interested in character animation and character design. Creating characters is almost like creating a new world because in a sense it really is creating a new world. It is creating that character's world - their personality, their looks, their style, the way they move and the way they talk or communicate. Everything is up to me and I think it is beautiful because I can create great heroes but also villains and typical, relatable humans but also weird and bizarre creatures. My imagination is my only limit.

Storytelling has been a big part of my life since I can remember. When I was younger I would write stories and draw comics. Back then I did not really know that an animator is a job I could possibly have. I got into animation when I was around 11 years old. It is when I got into my graphic design class and every year we did at least one stop-motion animation individually or in pairs. I always preferred to work individually because I am a leader and back then I didn't know how to use my leadership skills to lead a team. I would always get frustrated if someone was not helping me or they were goofing around instead of working. I was a hard-worker even back then, but I tend to criticize myself and call myself lazy.

I travel a lot and I am often inspired by different cultures. England is the third country I lived in - most of my life I lived in Poland, but I have also lived in the USA.

I want to focus on creating content for children because I love children and I love their minds. I work with children almost everyday - I tutor 5 hours a week, therefore I am in some way in those three kids' worlds and they let me discover the way they think. I start every lesson with them by throwing random words at them and making them create a short story out of those words and it is incredible what I hear everyday. These are not stories that adults would come up with, these are amazing stories about talking animals and wonderful travels - they are so unrealistic that they really are beautiful and that imagination is why I want to create content for children. I also think that children really are the future and keeping them inspired and full of creativity will keep the creative world alive.

Even though I concentrate on children, I still think conveying important social or political messages in my work is important. During the first term I have created an animation with a social message to end breed discrimination. I have put the story in visuals that are appropriate for children but the message was to all ages and this is something I definitely want to do more.

After I wrote all of that down and thought about myself as an artist, I decided to open a word document and try to write not too long 'About me' text. It is important that the text is not too long, because then no one would read it but also I wanted to include all the most important information in the text.

Here is the word document with what I came up:

I think the text came out pretty good and I included the most important things about myself as an artist. When the text was ready, all there was left to do was to change the text in the 'About' page to this text.

I placed the text onto the page and it worked perfectly. It doesn't seem too long in my opinion and the paragraphing looks good. In my about page I also have an image of myself that I have taken last term. It is black and white because I think it fits the theme and the aesthetics of my website more than a colorful picture.

I am very happy with the progress I have done. I think it works well on my website.

  1. Personally, I prefer to have a gap between paragraphs as it makes it a bit clearer. As it is an About Me page, I think you need to talk in the first person - 'I am studying.....I will study animation at DMU... I am living in....' etc.
Maybe consider changing the sentence about children to 'I am focused on creating content for children because since childhood animated cartoons have been a big inspiration for my practise. They are key in helping the development of young minds in terms of education and experience.' Otherwise, okay!
