Website: creating my Portfolio page

Another task we looked at in today's class, was creating our portfolio tab on our websites. A portfolio tab may differ between students, depending on what kind of project they are working on. For example, a someone doing a set of images, could do a gallery display. In my case, I will be showcasing a video - my animation. 

I started by picking a background for my page. I went with the same light pink I have been using, because I want all the parts of my website to match. 

Next, I also made sure the footer had no color, so it would also be pink. I did not want it to stand out with a white background, therefore it being transparent is what I wanted. 

I have also added a header saying "Project title", I will change the name when I have a project title ready. For now I just wanted to make sure I have everything planned out, so when it is time to put it on the website, I do not have to worry about little things, such as the website's layout. 

After placing a header, I have also looked at the paragraphs and chose one in a Futura Light font. I dragged the paragraph onto my page and placed it where I thought it looked neat. I am going to write the paragraph itself when I am closer to finishing the project, right now, once again I just wanted to have everything figured out. 

The next step for me, was placing the video window. There are different options, when it comes to putting a video on the website. A video can be put using wix videos or through a different platform, such as youtube. I decided to look further into those options, to make sure my video is showcased in the best way possible. 

I started doing the research by visiting the Wix Support website. You can click here to access the website. 

On that website, I learned that with using Wix Videos I can customize the design, layout and functionality of my video. I think this is a great feature, that might be useful to me. 

Then googled what problems there might be with showcasing a youtube video. Apparently, when a video is just updated, the quality of it can remain very low for some time - until a higher quality does not load. I learned that information in the google support tab, and to access it, click here. 

However, if I used youtube, I would be able to put another social media icon on my website and it would look quite professional to have accounts related to my work on different platforms. On the other hand, I need to remember, that youtube sometimes takes videos down by mistake. Also, if I used a youtube video I would not be able to customize how it is displayed on the website. 

 

For now, I think I am going to stick with Wix Videos, and if something changes, and I find good reasons to using youtube videos, I might change that in the future. 

I have placed a video box onto the website and this is how it looks so far. I know it will look better when a video is actually uploaded and there is a paragraph written about my project, therefore I do not worry too much about it yet. There is still time to create that.
