Project Development: Class task
Today in class we were doing sketches as a project development for our project. For my project I have a lot of work to get done, but one thing I have not had a lot of chances to truly work on is exaggeration of the poses.
For this class exercise I decided to create sketches of 6 poses of my character, defined by the line of action. The line of action is the line that kind of shows the pose of the character from the head to toes. It is rarely just a straight line, because characters are almost never just standing straight. Poses need to be exaggerated and interesting. The mood of them needs to be clear to the viewer. The action portrayed needs to be absolutely clear so there is no confusion.
For this exercise I decided to create a pose for: sad, angry, posing for a selfie, walking [facing front] and jumping from happiness and sitting. I decided to create the sketches digitally and I have colored the line of action red so it is clear what I drew. I am right before storyboarding, therefore I needed some poses and understanding the line of action to truly create believable character that looks real. These are things I am working on this term and I think by doing sketches like that I am developing those skills I am aiming to achieve.
These are really good little sketches, I think we talked last term about getting dynamic shapes and movement into your project last term, this is a big step forward in terms of recognising the underlying shapes and potential movements of your characters. As you state, they do look a lot more confident. Looking forward to seeing the storyboard of this idea.
