Animating scenes 4-8
In this blog post I will quickly explain the most important parts of the process of animating scenes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Firstly, scene 4. Scene 4 is just a very simple motion of a teacher handing out a test to my main character. The test has an A+ on it which means the character got a really high score. Generally this motion was quite simple to animate, because I created one drawing and then moved it around in the separate frames.
I placed it all on 3 different layers which I think was a mistake, because I would save time if it was on 2 layers. One being the background and one being the hand and the test together. After I continued animating the next scenes, I found out that the layer with the test was gone. I don't know how it disappeared, but I had to create another drawing of the test and animate it again. I am not sure what went wrong and what did I click to delete the layer, but luckily it was not a very complex motion and I was able to fix it quite quickly.
Scene 5 is a bit of an exaggeration of showing happiness because no one really gets that excited for a good grade. I generally wanted to show how successful the character is. I planned to place the character in between some other kids and make the kids clap and the character be cheerful in between of them. I drew two characters next to my main character and really tried to give them unique looks. Even though these are not my main characters, I want to make all of my characters memorable and interesting.
I also wanted to make their face expressions really show that they are surprised and impressed. This was also a challenge. For the motion in this scene I worked on clapping and on my main character's movement of arms and cheering. This was a scene really fun to work on, because I got to create some other characters as well and the motion was not too difficult either.
The next scene was supposed to be a long shot of my main character with the friends just hanging out outside. I decided to place her just with the boy to also show that she has a successful relationship, so everything is perfect. I decided not to create too much of a motion there - just them nodding their heads, as if they were talking or listening to music. This was a simple scene.
Scene seven was an angle I have never worked on. It was supposed to be shot from behind the shoulder and the motion was supposed to be the character taking off her make up.
I had to create a big analysis of the head and the hair of the character to create a shot I would be happy with. It is not very much behind the shoulder, but it does show the reflection of the character, so I'll take it. I think it is good enough for that I needed. I decided that when the character would reach her eyelashes with the tissue, they would disappear so it would look like she really took off her make up for the day. When animating the next scenes I need to remember that I have done that, so I do not accidentally add her eyelashes during the night.
Scene eight was the first actual scene of the night, so I needed to darken all of the colors. By looking at my storyboard, I knew the scene needed to be the character just sitting at her desk and time passing. At first I wanted to make an electric clock but then I thought that a clock on the wall would represent the passing time a lot more. I did not add any other motion than that because I wanted to make it all seem like a lot of time.
I have created the moon so bright to create contrast. I think it worked well with this particular scene. I am happy with it.
I am generally very happy with these 5 scenes I have animated. I still have a lot of work, but I love seeing that my work brings effects. That keeps me going. I put all of the scenes together with the previous scenes, and here is the result I have so far:
I am very happy with how the project is coming along. I think I am doing a good job.
on further reflection of the animation so far have you considered what we discussed in terms of soundtrack/dialogue or sound effects. Gentle, unobtrusive sound effects that alter the atmosphere from one scene to the other could work really well (from interior to exterior for example). Found a royalty free site here that has a good range of effects (if you use them remember to add an acknowledgement to your blog): https://www.storyblocks.com/audio/search/birds+chirping+in+park?search-origin=type_ahead&sort=most_relevant&vbonly=false
